FAQ

Are you a Canadian company, and do you include Canadian content?

  • Yes, we are a Canadian company. Our books are written, illustrated and printed in Canada. Not all of our stock images are taken by Canadian photographers, but many are. We try to incorporate Canadian locations whenever possible in our books. You will see some famous locations such as Niagara Falls, and Hopewell Rocks on the Bay of Fundy. We also try to choose general stock images in Canadian locations if possible. In “Biking”, the stock image about bike races in the city is taken in Vancouver. In “Sledding”, some of the city pictures were taken in Toronto. We are also aware that our books are used in the United States. Because of this, we avoid words with spelling variations in the two countries such as “centre/center”.

Do your books follow a Scope and Sequence?

  • Yes, our books follow a Scope and Sequence. Our Scope and Sequence is organized into 5 categories: Grapheme/Phoneme Correspondence, Orthographic Patterns/Generalisations, Morphology, Punctuation/Text Features, and High Frequency Words. We have several different formats of our Scope and Sequence that can be downloaded and printed - they are all found on our “News and Updates” page, as well as on each “Book Series” page (Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple). If you are interested in seeing how our Scope and Sequence compares to other series, check out UFLI’s Decodable Text Guide, which plots different series (including SyllaSense) based on Foundations Scope and Sequence.

Are you on Ontario’s Trillium List?

  • Ontario’s Trillium List is a list of textbooks that are approved to be used in Schools in Ontario. This list focuses on “textbooks”, whereas “readers” are considered “supplementary resources”. School boards have the responsibility to approve and choose supplementary resources on their own (see page 4 of the “Guidelines for Approval of Textbooks” document for definitions, and page 11 for information on the selection of supplementary resources).

Where do you ship and what does shipping/handing cost?

  • We currently ship to Canada and the USA. Our shipping is calculated based on weight. The more you purchase, the higher the shipping rate.

Do you accept Purchase Orders?

  • Yes, we accept Purchase Orders. If you are interested in submitting a Purchase Order, please email finance@syllasense.com. Once we have received your Purchase Order, we will process and ship the books, then forward our invoice. If you require a quote prior to submitting a Purchase Order, please email sales@syllasense.com.

Do you offer volume discounts?

  • Our books are priced so that the cost per book decreases as you purchase more. The cost per book when you purchase 10 titles (1 series) is $5.25 per book. Our cost per book when you purchase the Full Series Bundle Single Title Set (70 books) is $4.42 per book. Our Full Series Bundle Classroom Set (420 books) is $4.02 per book. If you purchase 10 or more Full Series Bundle Classroom Sets, we will offer an additional 10% off, bringing the cost per book down to $3.62 per book.
